ENGINEERING AND PERMITTING
As part of our services at Camara Industries, Inc., we handle all the necessary permitting tasks so your project can be completed on-time and within all applicable state and local laws. Our experience with the permitting process makes us your trusted partner for getting the job done right – the first time. We know the ins and outs of the permitting process as well as the requirements and expected turnaround times. Permitting is a necessary part of what we do at Camara Industries, Inc. However, as the permittee, there are a number of things that you will be responsible for throughout the process, including:
- Paying any and all fees to local and state governments and agencies as necessary.
- Providing a complete and detailed site plan or plot plan (fully-dimensioned). This is not required by all cities.
- A complete and accurate valuation of the project that outlines the cost of materials, labor and any incidentals associated with the project.
- Details regarding each contractor, including legal business name, state license number, proof of workman’s compensation coverage, an authorization letter, and a business license as provided by the city where the project is located.
- Layout drawings that accurately depict all exit doors, location(s) of equipment being permitted, aisle spaces around the equipment and the distance to each building exit.
- UFC – Article 81 commodities letter that outlines what product will be stored in or on the equipment and how it will be stored, whether or not the product being stored will be encapsulated, and the classification of the product being stored. Excellence in Manufacturing: The RMI Standards for Storage Rack Systems and the Path to R-Mark Certification
In industrial, commercial, and retail settings, storage rack systems play a pivotal role. These warehouse rack systems serve as more than mere industrial storage solutions; they act as crucial pillars ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and business productivity. The manufacturing of these warehouse racks, therefore, demands rigorous quality assurance standards, which is where the Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) and its set of standards come into play. In this blog, we delve into the world of RMI standards and the journey a manufacturer takes to secure the esteemed R-Mark Certification.
Understanding the RMI Standards
The Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) has developed comprehensive standards for the design, testing, and utilization of industrial storage racks. The goal of these RMI standards is to guarantee that manufacturers meet stringent quality benchmarks in their production process, ensuring that the end product is not only durable and efficient but also safe for use.
The RMI standards encompass every aspect of this rack system production, from design and fabrication to assembly, inspection, usage, and maintenance. The standards, housed within the ‘Specification for the Design, Testing, and Utilization of Industrial Steel Storage Racks,’ encapsulate everything from load-bearing capabilities to the structural design of the pallet racks, including details on protective equipment use. Of great importance in these standards is the requirement for regular inspections and assessments, playing a critical role in maintaining the systems’ safety and longevity.
The Journey to R-Mark Certification
A testament to a manufacturer’s adherence to the RMI standards is the R-Mark Certification. This voluntary certification, awarded by RMI, is a badge of honor for manufacturers, signifying their commitment to producing superior, standard-compliant industrial storage rack systems.
Achieving the R-Mark certification is no mean feat. It requires a manufacturer to meet a stringent set of prerequisites, as we outline below:
Adherence to RMI’s Specifications: At the core of the R-Mark certification process is a manufacturer’s unwavering compliance with RMI’s specifications for the design, testing, utilization, and maintenance of industrial racks.
Rigorous Testing and Verification: Manufacturers must submit to thorough testing and verification by an independent third-party entity. These tests verify that the manufacturer’s products meet the required strength, durability, and safety benchmarks.
A Commitment to Safe and Responsible Manufacturing: R-Mark-certified manufacturers must demonstrate an enduring commitment to safety and responsible manufacturing practices. This commitment includes educating their clients on the appropriate use and maintenance of these rack systems and offering continued customer support.
Continuous Improvement: Earning the R-Mark is not a one-and-done achievement. Instead, it represents a long-term commitment to continuous improvement. Certified manufacturers must consistently show dedication to refining their processes, products, and services in line with RMI standards.
RMI standards and the R-Mark certification epitomize the highest quality, safety, and effectiveness standards in the storage rack systems industry. Earning the R-Mark certification demonstrates a manufacturer’s pledge to these standards, providing their clients with a trusted and reliable product.
However, upholding these standards isn’t just about the manufacturers. Customers also play a critical role by opting for products from R-Mark-certified manufacturers and adhering to recommended usage and maintenance guidelines. In doing so, we ensure these pallet racking systems’ safety, reliability, and longevity, contributing to a better organized, more efficient, and safer workspace. This, in turn, is a win-win for manufacturers, clients, and the industry at large.
